Bugs in Her Nose

Larkin woke up with a runny nose this morning. I said to her, "Oh no! Do you have boogies in your nose?" and she just looked at me. I smiled and clarified, "Your nose is running." She thought that was funny and smiled. She said, "bugs. nose."
I couldn't help but laugh out loud at her funny play on words. I suppose "boogies" does sound like "bugs" ...
She laughed with me and then added, "run. nose. silly."
A good reminder that the words we say sometimes sound really silly when our children first hear them in a new or deeper context.

A Budding Food Critic

Me: Larkin, what should we eat for dinner?
L: It's yucky!
Me: What is yucky?
L: Dinnet yucky.
Me: You don't even know what we're going to have yet ...
L: (looks at me and raises her eyebrows) It's YUCKY!

Larkin went on to pretend to feed me things that were "yucky". She would pretend to take something out her hand and give it to me while saying, "yucky momma". I would make a silly face like I was eating something yucky. She would erupt in giggles.
The game went on like this for a while!

What's the Big Deal?

My daughter is smart and funny. She has tiny little freckles on her forehead and nose. She loves to giggle and growl. She loves to eat black beans, yogurt and honey, strawberries, hummus, and brown rice.
She is quirky and amazing in ways only a mother can truly appreciate. I want to document some of the funny things she says and does. So I don't forget.

.........

Larkin is working on her colors. She knows lots of color names: yellow, blue, green, red, pink, orange, but she hardly ever gets the color and the color name matched up right. If she says "red" chances are the thing she is pointing at will actually be blue. If she says "yellow" I can bet good money that when she holds up the toy it will be green.
There isn't any rhyme or reason to her labels yet, but she is fascinated with colors!
